What's the difference between a course and a workshop?

Playwriting E-course

E-script's online E-course is a great training ground for beginning playwrights, and a good place for more experienced playwrights to polish their skills. Each week, registrants receive an online tutorial from award-winning, internationally-produced playwright Mark Troy on a specific craft subject, and a related exercise. You return assignments by e-mail, and receive feedback in the same way. Mark will also be glad to respond to general questions and comments at any time.

Your course is highly individualized; Mark works one-on-one with you, and, unlike some other online courses, we don't ask you to provide feedback to other students. At the end of the course, you have the option of "meeting" with Mark in E-script's online chatroom, accessible via any web-browser.

As the course is conducted largely by e-mail, you may work at your own convenience. Exercises can be done on their own, or applied to a script you want to begin or are already working on. Registrants in E-script E-courses receive a 10% discount on a subsequent E-script workshop. (See What's the difference between a course and a workshop?)

Fees: Five week course:$210.00 (U.S.) / Ten week course: $350.00 (U.S.). The fee may be paid in two installments; see enrollment page for details.

NEW! Self-Directed Playwriting Course

Want to do the work on your own time, but still have the input of a professional on the final product? With our new self-directed screenwriting course, you receive all 10 lessons and exercises upon registering. You work through them at your own speed and, while you won't receive ongoing feedback as you would in our standard course (see above), each exercise brings you one step closer to making a start on your script. By the end of the 10 lessons, you'll have written the first 25 pages of a play, which you can then send to internationally-produced playwright (and E-script Executive Director) Frank Moher for his detailed feedback. You also have the option of a follow-up "meeting" with Frank in E-script's online chatroom, accessible via any web-browser.

Fee: $150. The fee may be paid in two installments; see enrollment page for details.

Playwriting Workshop

The E-script Workshop is for playwrights who want to work on a new play, or on a draft of a work-in-progress, under the guidance of one of our internationally-produced playwright-mentors: Miriam Gallagher, Mark Troy, or Mark S.P. Turvin. Submit script material to your mentor by e-mail as often as you like. Once weekly, you'll receive individual feedback intended to help you in revision and to encourage your ongoing work. Your mentor will also be glad to respond to general questions and comments at any time.

Your workshop is highly individualized; our instructor works one-on-one with you, and, unlike some other online workshops, we don't ask you to provide feedback to other students. At the end of the course, you also have the option of "meeting" with your mentor in our online chatroom, accessible via any web-browser.

As the workshop is conducted largely by e-mail, you may work at your own convenience. Writers who have been through an E-script E-course receive a 10% discount. (See What's the difference between a course and a workshop?)

Fees: Five week workshop: $210.00 (U.S.) / Ten week workshop: $350.00 (U.S.). The fee may be paid in two installments; see enrollment page for details.

E-script's Script Consulting Service

Can't spare the time for a course or workshop, but still want professional feedback on, and help with, your script? Then try our year-round script consulting service. The one-time fee is $175.00 (U.S.), payable by check, money order, Mastercard or VISA.

If you're interested in our script consulting service, e-mail us. Tell us a bit about your play, which consultant you'd like to work with, and when you'd like to get started.
