Editor's picks (by Executive Director Frank Moher):

Ugandan playwright says his compatriots have gone bananas

From AllAfrica.com: In Uganda, playwright Alex Mukulu celebrates the National Theatre's Golden Jubilee by updating and restaging his 30 Years of Bananas. Hard on government, the play is even harder on Ugandans themselves, and their -- in his view -- complacency during the crucial years 1962 through 1992. The banana, he says, is a perfect metaphor for his country's political life then and now: "90% water and I think 1% protein. There is a lot of nothingness in a banana."

Tom Stoppard the new George Lucas?

From Minnesota Public Radio: As he prepares to visit Minneapolis's Guthrie Theatre, Tom Stoppard (fresh from the successful New York premiere of The Coast of Utopia [part I]), says he hasn't purposely turned political in his writing, and calls his new play(s) "the Star Wars of Lincoln Center." (Real Player required.)

Panto time: Mark Ravenhill on why it's so much fun to get silly

From The Guardian: Surprised that playwright Mark (Shopping and Fucking) Ravenhill loves pantos? He's not, and in this valentine to the old British form (which combines children's stories with slapstick, drag, and anything else that can be tossed in), he's positively bubbly about the liberating experience of writing one.
