Editor's picks (by Executive Director Frank Moher):
Cussler sues
From The L.A. Times and johnaugust.com: We agree with screenwriter John August that the L.A. Times story on Clive Cussler's lawsuit against the producers of Sahara is pretty damn entertaining. But even more entertaining is the post by one respondent on August's website, going off on him for suggesting that Cussler is the villain of the piece. "Before you go calling somebody else's work a 'mediocre' franchise," writes bumponnahalfapple, "or talk about them 'coasting' along with it, maybe you should take a look at your own work, because frankly, I don't see you having accomplished even that much yet." August augustly declines to take the bait, and what follows is a lively and, for the web, exceptionally intelligent debate about novelist's vs. producer's vs. screenwriter's rights and obligations.
Bulletin: "Good Shepherd" screewriter actually welcomed on set!
From The L.A. Daily News: He may have won the Oscar for writing Forrest Gump, and penned such other major films as Ali and (with Tony Kushner) Munich, but Eric Roth had never spent much time on set. Until Robert DeNiro came along.
